Easter Monday is the day that follows Easter Sunday and is observed as a commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as described in the Christian Bible. Many people in Canada also observe the Monday after Easter as a holiday.
What is Easter Monday?
Easter (also known as Pascha) is celebrated annually in March or April to commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which Christians believe occurred roughly two thousand years ago after he was crucified. (The two-month period of the Christian calendar beginning shortly after Easter and ending around Pentecost is also known as the Easter season).
Where is the Name "Easter" Derived?
The pagan goddess of fertility, whose feast was observed on the Vernal Equinox, inspires the term Easter. Oestrogen, the female hormone, and the word "East" are also derived from her name. The Easter Bunny tradition can be traced back to the ancient Saxon belief that the Hare was sacred to Ostara.
The last supper is said to have occurred during a particular part of Passover traditions, which is why the Christian Easter is closely tied to this Jewish festival. However, throughout many languages other than English and German, the name of the holiday is inferred from Pesach, the Hebrew name of Passover. Therefore, Easter's timing and symbolic significance depend on Passover.
How is Easter Monday Public Life in Canada?
Although Easter Monday is recognized as a legal holiday by the federal government of Canada, this is not always the case with the various provincial and territorial governments around the country. Some maintain that the holiday is taken at the discretion of the employer. The regulations regarding this holiday are always subject to change, and they differ between establishments, provinces, and regions.
All schools, businesses, and other organizations are closed in areas where residents are given the day off for Easter Monday. There is a possibility that the timetables for public transportation services will be altered. There is a possibility that rural communities would lack access to any form of public transportation.
What is the Easter Monday Symbol?
Easter eggs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. In this way, they mirror the Christian belief in Christ's resurrection from the dead by symbolizing the renewal of life in the spring and summer. Easter eggs are a traditional present given to children and adults alike, whether made of chocolate or candy or just hens' eggs that have been decorated. However, a replica of a Ukrainian Easter egg (known as a Pysanka) may be found in Vegreville, Alberta; it is the largest Easter egg in the world.
In 1974, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and to recognize Vegreville's close ties to Ukraine, the Pysanka was built. It is assembled from about 2000 aluminum triangles using nearly 7000 nuts and 177 individual struts. The egg has a diameter of more than 25 feet (almost eight meters) and is adorned with gold, silver, and bronze designs. Technological innovations in computer modeling, mathematics, architectural design, and engineering came together to create it.
